Mobile phone and mobile devices have certainly taken over. More and more people are utilizing these devices to communicate and to do business. Your typical websites will not perform well with mobile devices. So, what do you need to do to make your site mobile compatible and to catch the attention of everyone who is using mobile devices to do business? You need to make your site mobile friendly.

It's not that hard to do. I have assembled the following 10 easy steps for you to follow. If you do every one of these, your site will be mobile friendly and no one will have trouble communicating with you or doing business with you via a mobile device:

1. Keep your website simple, not flashy. A flashy website will not translate well to a mobile device. Keep things simple and stick to basic website construction.

2. Think about how your mobile clients will see your subject matter on your site. Use a mobile device yourself to review your own site. You won't know if your site is coming through to them or not without literally checking.

3. Keep the ads down to a minimum. You might find that your ads are actually taking up too much space for mobile customers. You may want to move them to another area. Ads do not perform as well on a mobile device like they do on your website. Again, check to see what the ads look like on a mobile device.

4. There is special coding that you might need to do so that people can view your content properly on a specific mobile platform. Your content will need to be in the best format for different mobile platforms.

5. Navigation works really well on a mobile device. Consider utilizing more navigation for your mobile site. Use short drop-down menus. Make sure that when a customer picks your drop-down that the specific drop-down takes them to the proper page. Don't add layers to your site. Take your users exactly to where they need to go based on what your drop-down menu states.

6. Make your links short. If you have ever struggled to send a text message, you know that at times it can be a challenge. While most people are getting really good at texting, it is still difficult to type in those lengthy links. Don't annoy your customers. Make it a pleasant experience.

7. Put one post or set of posts on one page. This goes back to making your site as simple as possible. Keep your content organized and make it simple to read on these small mobile devices. I like to keep one post on each page.

8. Instead of having a generic entry page, put your content on the first page. It is always a good idea to keep your foremost and most current content first.

9. Occasionally links just don't work the right way on a mobile friendly site. A good plan would be to put your links at the end of your content. Your links may work well within your content on your regular site but they don't typically work well on a mobile site. If you put your links at the end of your post or content, it makes the site simpler for your customers to find their way through to them.

10. As far as navigation on your mobile site, a drop-down structure or a hover navigation system works the best. These types of navigation really save a lot of space on the particular mobile device and will make it simpler for your customers to use.

Mobile devices are most definitely the way of the future. So, don't lose customers because your website can't be viewed on these types of devices. Use these 10 steps to make your site mobile friendly. Make your site easy to use and capture every customer you can.
